Could CBD be your skin’s new BFF?

CBD oil is widely being recognised as a new hero skincare product, which can help your inner glow come to the surface.

Let’s take a look at the benefits CBD could have for you.

⁃ Acne-

it is widely recognised that acne is one of the ways our bodies can respond to inflammation.  There are a multitude of reasons why our bodies can be in a state of inflammation such as stress, diet, sleep issues and imbalanced hormones. By reducing the body’s inflammatory responses CBD can help acne sufferers by tackling the causes and not just the treating the symptoms.

Research has also shown that CBD can reduce sebum production as a result of creating an overall state of calm and balance in the body. For active breakouts it can help moisturise any sore or red skin (taking all moisture away will encourage the skin to produce even more sebum) and can help neutralise and soothe the area to improve the appearance of the skin.

⁃ Dehydrated/Dry skin-

whilst these sound similar having dehydrated and dry skin are actually separate issues. Dehydrated skin is a very common issue caused by the skin’s inability to retain water. This feels tight and itchy  and you may see that makeup or skincare products don’t last long on the skin because it literally tries to soak up any hydration possible. Whilst drinking plenty of water can only help, this is not always adequate as even though our skin is our largest organ, water is often used by our other bodily functions as a priority.

CBD oil can help keep skin hydrated by improving the skin barrier function to lock in the hydration.  Dry skin is caused by a lack of moisture in the skin through an imbalance of oil production, similar to acne. Where dehydrated skin can make wrinkles look more pronounced (think raisins in comparison to juicy grapes), dry skin can feel rough like sandpaper and be flakey. CBD and hemp seed oil can counteract this by flooding the skin with antioxidants and essential fatty acids which provide comfort and relief for dry skin. If you ever need a quick glow, just add a few drops of CBD housed in hemp oil to your palms and pat it gently onto your face after cleansing.

⁃ Sensitivity- another inflammatory response is skin sensitivity which results in very angry or red looking skin. CBD’s calming effect which brings the skin back to balance helps counteract sensitivity issues by not only helping the skin barrier function, but also minimising the body’s reactions to environmental stressors.

As we can see, taking CBD both internally and applying it topically to your skin can help combat those annoying skin complaints we all can suffer from through its many calming and normalising effects.  CBD oil really is a showstopper ingredient in skincare and when added to your skincare routine can have a multitude of benefits to help you look and feel your best at all times.
